Lake Butler - Winfred John Tallman of Lake Butler died Sunday at North Florida Regional Medical Center after a long illness.  He was 52.

Born in Gainesville, Mr. Tallman moved to Lake Butler 12 years ago. He was a teacher at Howard Bishop Middle School for 28 years, and he also served in the U.S. Navy.

Survivors include his wife, Suzanne Tallman of Lake Butler; a daughter, Julie Elixson of Lake Butler; three sons, James Tallman and David Androlevich, both of Lake Butler, and Richard Androlevich of Worthington Springs; two sisters, Grace Meeks of Archer and Betty Goldin of St. Petersburg; two brothers, Richard Tallman of St. Augustine and Aaron Tallman of Gainesville; and five grandchildren.

John Tallman is my brother and he was a big strong man with a heart of gold.  His family loved him so very much and we were heartbroken to lose him at such an early age. He was a dedicated school math teacher and I always admired him for that because I barely graduated high school and flunked each math class at least one time.  John was the citizen/sailor that has made America great.  His life was far too short but he accomplished much.  His children and grandchildren can be very proud of John Tallman.

Mr. Tallman was my 6th grade math teacher at Howard Bishop Middle School '82-'83...I was thinking back to those days this morning and he came to mind while trying to remember how many male teachers I had. I liked him, though he sure liked to kick that trash can when we'd frustrate him...;)...I thought it was endearing and knew it was our fault. I appreciate that he did teach...there simply are not enough male teachers in our school system. I still live in Gainesville, with 2 youngins in elementary. Take care John Tallman.

John Tallman is my father. He left this earth way too soon for reasons I will never understand. There is not a day that goes by that I don't think about him or miss him greatly. His grandkids never got to know him yet so many milestones in their lives they will stop and ask "what do you think Pepaw would think of that?". He was the greatest father to all of us and I know I was the priveleged to be able to call him daddy. He may be gone from Earth but never forgotten. I know he is our guardian angel watching over all of his family until we meet again.
