Michjael Ray Whiddon, Sr. of Gainesville died Saturday at North Florida Regional Medican Center. He was 58.
Mr. Whiddon was a retired officer with the Gainesville Police Department and the Alachua County Sheriff's Office.
He was a lifelong resident of Gainesville and was a veteran of the U.S. Army Reserve.
Mr. Whiddon was working at Compas Bank and was also secretary for the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie No.4385. He enjoyed fishing, golfing, and Gator Sports.
Survivors include his wife, Cheryl Whiddon of Gainesville; a son, Michael Whiddon, Jr. of West Palm Beach; a daughter, Christie Matkozich of Gainesville; his mother, Virginia Whiddon of Gainesville; two brothers, Frank Whiddon of Tavares and Clark Whiddon of Ft. Lauderdale; two sisters, Judy Martin of Gainesville and Mary Virginia "Gina" Franz of California; and two grandchildren.
