Military rites for Pfc. Michael Gooding, 23, formerly of Seattle, were held yesterday in San Mateo, CA.

He had been missing since December while on leave from the 8th Infantry Division at Bad Kreuznach, Germany.  His body was found August 24th on Zugspitze mountain, where it is assumed he died of a fall while mountain climbing.

Private Gooding, born in Bremerton, attended schools in Seattle and Gainesville, FL.  He attended Western Washington State College two years before enlisting in the Army in April, 1965.

Surviving are his father, Donald P. Gooding, San Mateo;  his mother, Mrs. June Massey, and a brother, Kelly Gooding, both of Escondido, CA.

I knew Mike had passed while mountain climbing many years ago, but never had the opportunity to talk to his family and let them know how much he was loved by those who knew him.  He was my best friend in high school, and when I think of those years I always think of Mike.  Mike was an introvert around those he didn't know, thus denying many the opportunity of knowing one of the funniest and nicest student at Gainesville High School,  God bless you Mike.
